Action for Singapore Gala: Jane in Singapore 2019

On the eve of November 26, after a successful full-day conference on Wildlife-Human Interaction, it was time to relax and celebrate.

Two hundred and ninety guests gathered for the Action for Conservation Gala at the Grande Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, to share in their mutual support for the work of the Jane Goodall Institute Singapore, and their admiration of Dr. Jane Goodall. Lead Gala sponsor City Developments Limited and a glittering group of corporate and individual supporters and volunteers donated funds, auction items, time and in-kind products to make the evening an unforgettable one!

MCs Nadia and Moe kept the guests informed and amused, until Dr. Jane took the stage. Her inspiring 40-minute address included what impacted her as a young person, her hope for the future, a heartfelt apology to the world’s children for the state of our planet, and most importantly, what each of us can do to affect change. This moving speech was followed by a presentation to Dr. Jane of a bound copy of her 1968 research in Gombe, by a young person who had been part of the Roots and Shoots education program in Singapore.

Guests enjoyed a delicious vegetarian dinner and organic wines, along with a signature mocktail created especially for the event. A wide range of lovely donated items were available by silent auction, including stunning photographs, local experiences and a wide array of Dr. Jane’s books. The lively live auction included marvelous travel and staycation opportunities which we know will be fully enjoyed by the winning bidders! We are deeply grateful to all of our event sponsors, and silent and live auction donors.

Funds were raised in a memorable evening, to support the programs of Jane Goodall Institute Singapore, to protect and maintain primate populations and the habitats that support them. Thank you to every guest who attended, to the sponsors and donors, to the hard-working Gala committee, including our JGIS General Manager, who organized the event.
